Can You Help?

Update

The problem of some people not being able to see suit symbols appeared to be restricted to the Aces on Bridge columns (sorry Mr. Wolff). It should now be fixed.

If you were one of those affected and are checking to see if everything is alright now, you may need to click “Refresh” in your browser. If you find you still have difficulty with the suit symbols, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Readers of blog posts have reported not being able to see the suit symbols in some posts. If you cannot see some of the suit symbols in the grid below, then you can help us resolve this issue by giving us some information (details after the table).

TEST  Spade   Heart   Diamond   Club
Image
Symbolic Entities
Numeric Entities
CSS Generated
Unicode

The easiest way to provide us with feedback is to post a comment. If you do not see the symbols in some of the rows of the above table, please tell us:

  • Which rows you cannot see the symbols in
  • The browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera…) you are using and what release (a.k.a. version) it is
  • What system are you using (i.e. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, other) and which version it is (e.g. Windows 7, Snow Leopard…)
  • If you see “funny symbols” instead of the suit symbols in a row(s), please tell us that as well.

Google Chrome and Windows 7. I can see all suits properly shaped, although the only suits displayed in red are in rows for Image and CSS Generated.

Value your “reaching out” to readers to try to resolve a problem. Thanks.

Hi, I am one of those who has had this problem. Here is the info you desire.

I cannot see the symbols on the CSS generated line. The others are fine
My Browser is Internet Explorer version 8.0.
My system is WIndows XP Home Edition.

I hope that this helps.

Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP

See all symbols properly (except as indicated below).

Rows 2,3, and 5 do not show hearts, diamonds in red.

Thanks for the feedback. I had a suspicion, unfortunately, that the problem was with the “CSS Generated” suit symbols. I will fix the problem but it will take me a while (it’s the holidays and family…).

For this test, I didn’t bother coloring the red suit symbols (the images were colored and the CSS generated codes included coloring them).

It’s a real pity about the CSS generated symbols as it is a nice “clean” implementation. Oh well.

John, I’m on Chrome so the CSS-generated works just fine.

But I have had a different problem recently. I read the blog posts using a RSS-reader and it’s now mangling Bobby Wolff’s column. None of the suit symbols are showing up.

Lak: The problem you are having is probably due to character-encoding (Unicode/UTF-8). If you have only encountered the RSS feed problem with recent Aces on Bridge columns, then the fix I’m working on will resolve the issue for you.

Hi Jonh,

I see all ok. Firefox/window 7. Internet Explorer 9/Window XP.

My problem is I can not make and insert BBO Movies into my posts.
I tried using different computers and different internet providers.

Also my movies had disappeared from my old posts.

I wonder if any other blogger had this problem on this site?

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Seems to be working fine now, John. Thanks so much.

Cheers,

Judy
